about elia

Spanish born, journalist by trade, wanderer at heart. Currently based in San Francisco after visiting friends four years ago and, by a turn of fate, deciding to stay. I'm now quite happy enjoying sunny winters.

I've been writing for as long as I can remember, winning my first "literary" award in second grade thanks to a poem about my lunch. I also got the photography bug at an early age, receiving my first camera from my dad when I was nine and about to spend a summer in France without my family. The result could be best described as abstract beach impressionism.

Besides writing, some of my past gigs include human rights research in the Balkans, jury of an international film festival in Brussels, monitoring elections in Congo and Ivory Coast, fashion photography in Barcelona and selling Mexican sombreros in Southern France. In spite of all that traveling around the world, I have an appalling sense of direction.

Since my time living in Africa, I'm infatuated with giraffes (aren't they awesome?). I'm also a fan of tall men, messenger bags, the color red, baby dachshunds, European public transportation and chatting with strangers. I hate birthday cakes, manicures, high heels and car alarms.
